What is a Fluoroscopy?

Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique that allows physicians to view moving body structures in real time, much like an X-ray "movie." A continuous X-ray beam is directed through the body, and the resulting images are displayed on a monitor, providing detailed visualization of the body part and its motion. This powerful diagnostic tool enables physicians to evaluate a wide range of body systems, including the skeletal, digestive, urinary, respiratory, and reproductive systems, with precision and clarity.

Fluoroscopy may be performed to evaluate specific body areas, including the bones, muscles and joints, as well as solid organs, such as the heart, lungs or kidneys.

Other related procedures that may be used to diagnose problems of the bones, muscles or joints include:

  • X-ray
  • Myelography (myelogram)
  • Computed tomography (CT scan)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Arthrography
